Roger Williams Park Ponds Restoration

Interested in Volunteering?

Help us restore the Park Ponds! Some of the projects we will need volunteers for include:

  • Water Quality Monitoring - Get certified by Watershed Watch to take monthly water quality samples in the ponds April through October.
    • Taking monthly samples means going out on the same day and time each month, rain or shine.

  • Public Use Surveys - Under the direction of Park staff, survey park use patterns and pond conditions,
    • This work may include, surveys of fishing, boating, shoreline, bird counts and providing office assistance.

Public Education - Help spread the word about the water quality issues in the ponds and why it is illegal to feed waterfowl.
    • This work will involve talking to the public, particularly those that are feeding the birds, about why it is unhealthy to both the ponds and the birds.

  • Building Outreach - Help us grow our Friends of Roger Williams Park Ponds group by developing outreach materials and organizing community events to spread the word and raise money.

  • Hands-On Plantings - Get down and dirty helping us replant the shorelines of the ponds with various native plants to provide buffers from stormwater and waterfowl.
    • Planting to begin spring/summer 2012.
