2025 Kickemuit Dam Removal Webinar

In 1883, the first of two dams were built on the Kickemuit River in Warren, RI. These dams were designed to create a freshwater reservoir which would act as a back-up drinking water reservoir for the local residents. Saltwater kept over-topping the dam, and those plans never happened. Since then, the Bristol County Water Authority and Save The Bay have tirelessly worked to remove the dams and restore tidal flow to the Kickemuit. In 2024, both dams were removed. With the help of Roger Williams University, they have studied how changes to the river and shoreline ecosystems with the return of salt and brackish water.

Please join us to hear our partners tell the story of restoring the “Kickie”!
