NBEP seeks proposals to develop an economic indicator for the 2027 Status and Trends Report for the Narragansett Bay Region

The Narragansett Bay Estuary Program (NBEP) seeks professional consulting services to develop an indicator of the economic value of coastal and freshwater associated recreational opportunities resulting from water quality improvements to inform its upcoming 2027 Status and Trends Report for the Narragansett Bay region. Please refer to the RFQ document linked below for details. Questions may be directed to Courtney Schmidt, Staff Scientist.

The Contractor will work under the guidance of the NBEP staff scientist to develop and pilot a repeatable economic indicator focused on the economic value of coastal and freshwater associated recreational opportunities resulting from water quality improvements in the region. This indicator will be featured in the next Status and Trends report to be published in 2027. This indicator was included in the report developed by the Social Science Working Group to explore and expand the science NBEP reports to its partnership. In addition to the indicator description provided in the working group report, NBEP aims to identify “sentinel” locations (such as a specific beach, fishing pier, or public access point) that can be reassessed frequently.

The Contractor will be responsible for developing methods, identifying available and relevant data, pilot testing the indicator, identifying sentinel locations (at least one in every major study area) and assuring that data will be collected frequently enough at those locations for regular reassessment.
