Join us June 3rd, 2025 for a Webinar about Removing Dams on the Kickemuit River
In 1883, the first of two dams were built on the Kickemuit River in Warren, RI. These dams were designed to create a freshwater reservoir which would act as a back-up drinking water reservoir for the local residents. Saltwater kept over-topping the dam, and those plans never happened. Since then, the Bristol County Water Authority and Save The Bay have tirelessly worked to remove the dams and restore tidal flow to the Kickemuit. In 2024, both dams were removed. With the help of Roger Williams University, they have studied how changes to the river and shoreline ecosystems with the return of salt and brackish water.
You are invited to join the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program and partners on Tuesday, June 3rd from 12:30p- 2:00p for a webinar about dam removal and restoration on the Kickemuit River. Please register for the webinar here or visit NBEP’s web page for more information.
