Technical Reader For 2027 State of Our Waterways Report

The Narragansett Bay Estuary Program (NBEP) seeks professional technical reading and editing services to complete a review of a suite of documents currently in development by NBEP to report on the status and trends of environmental indicators in the Narragansett Bay region. The tentative name for the report is the “2027 State of Our Waterways Report for the Narragansett Bay Region” (SOOW).

he Contractor will work under the guidance of NBEP staff to provide technical reading, writing, and editing services to support the publication of the SOOW. NBEP will provide the Contractor with relevant documents, including draft technical reports, draft indicator webpages, and background information. Draft technical reports and indicator webpages will be drafted by NBEP staff and consultants and reviewed by select content experts in NBEP’s Working Groups prior to delivery to the Contractor; as such, drafts will vary in style and tone. The Contractor will be responsible for reviewing and recommending edits for the following across all technical reports and webpage content:

  1. Writing style and tone consistency

  2. Document organization, including headings, figure and table numbering, etc.

  3. Acronym and abbreviation usage, spelling, grammar, etc.

The Contractor will provide initial edits and recommendations to all drafts prior to a 60-day public comment period for NBEP Standing Committees (Executive, Steering, and Science Advisory) and the public. The Contractor will then be responsible for incorporating public and committee input on draft text following initial review of the input by NBEP staff. NBEP will collect and organize all comments and provide them to the Contractor in written format for incorporation.
An initial kick-off meeting with NBEP staff and Contractor will be scheduled after the contract’s execution. It is expected that communication between the Contractor and NBEP can be accomplished by conference call or email. The Contractor will be expected to work individually and collectively with all pertinent NBEP committee members, agencies, and entities throughout the duration of this project as needed.
